C. Bates, Washington State University's new provost, and 25 other
university leaders got a firsthand glimpse of extension and research
programs in southeast and south central Washington during a bus
tour on June 24 and 25.
The provost, who came to Pullman in February
from Virginia Tech, had expressed an interest in seeing WSU programs
in action across the state. "Extension welcomed this opportunity
to showcase its programs," said Dora Rumsey, southeast district
director for Cooperative Extension.
The tour, dubbed Tour de l'Etat
(Tour of the State), included stops at the WSU Cooperative Extension
office in Kennewick, WSU Tri-Cities, the WSU Prosser Irrigated Agriculture

the Cooperative Extension office in Yakima, Yakima Valley Community College and the WSU learning center located there. The final stops were at a cherry orchard and at radio station KDNA in Granger.
"Nearly 60 extension staff and faculty contributed to the program and put together an exceptional agenda that enabled tour participants to get a strong sense of the mosaic that is extension," said Cliff Moore, extension program director/associate director of extended university services.
"I couldn't be more pleased with information our staff and faculty presented, the opportunities we had to meet program participants, and the reaction from those who came along on the tour," said Mike Tate, dean and director of WSU Cooperative Extension.
