Washington State University Five Star 4-H Leadership Program
Rhe yan Jablonski, a member of the Snohomish 4-H Club, has been selected to participate in the 2002 National 4-H Youth Technology Leadership Team.
Members of the team will be involved in implementation of the National 4-H Technology Design Team Report, which contains recommendations for working in areas like the Digital Divide, State Technology Teams, and Integrating Technology throughout all 4-H programs.
Lloyd Spencer, solutions unit manager at Microsoft Corporation, has been a mentor to Ryan for several years. "Over the past 5 years, I have seen Ryan Jablonski grow from an inquisitive 4-H club member, into a dynamic 4-H club leader whose talents in computer science are only outweighed by his leadership capabilities. I look forward to seeing Ryan grow his technical and leadership capabilities, not only as a valued member of the Washington State 4-H community, but also the of the national and international 4-H community."
In nominating Ryan for this honor, Curt Moulton, chair of WSU Cooperative Extension in Snohomish County, had this to say about Ryan.
"Knowledge of computer technologies is one of Mr. Jablonski's strengths. He has mastered every skill taught in the Snohomish County program and added additional skills through self-study and internships. He knows how to assemble and upgrade computers, troubleshoot hardware and software programs, use word processing, database, graphic, gaming and web page creation software, write programs in Visual Basic and set up and maintain network and website servers. He has held internships as a teacher in a summer youth camp and a web master for WSU. Currently he is interning as a lab technician at the Microsoft corporate headquarters.
"His skills base, however, goes beyond technical skills. Mr. Jablonski has had leadership positions in the Byte-by-Byte Technology Club and in the county computer program. He is immediate past president and has held various committee and mentor roles in the Byte-by-Byte Club. He is currently one of 3 youth serving on the county 4-H

Technology Program Management board and has served as the program's webmaster. The Program serves more than 100 youth a year. His national experience includes being a delegate to the National 4-H Technology Conference and a charter trainee in the Teens Teaching Internet to Seniors program.
"Mr. Jablonski is clearly a leader among his youth colleagues. He has gained the respect and leadership support of his fellow 4-H members by mentoring younger and less experienced members, volunteering to lead activities and teaching exciting new technologies. He has a strong commitment to community service and is someone that others can count on."
As a member of the 4-H Youth Technology Leadership Team, Ryan will also be working with Extension Technology professionals on a number of state and national technology projects and with small groups using the latest online project management and content management tools.
Technology team members are automatically part of their state delegation to the National 4-H Conference, held at the National 4-H Center in April 2002, and also are required to attend the National 4-H Technology Conference in July in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
