Washington
State University's Master Gardeners invite you to join them in celebrating
the 30th anniversary of their program.
Washington's
3,100 Master Gardeners are university-trained volunteers who serve
as educators in their communities and help WSU Cooperative Extension
better serve the gardening public. Since its inception, the Master
Gardener concept has spread to every state, Canada and at least
12 other countries.
"To
usher in this important year in our history, I am pleased to announce
our 30th Anniversary Poster," said Rod Tinnemore, state coordinator,
Cooperative Extension Master Gardener program. "Limited quantities
of these beautiful posters are available for sale at our Master
Gardener online store mastergardener.wsu.edu
Later
this year, a WSU Master Gardener calendar and cookbook will be offered
on the Web site. The calendar will feature Master Gardener demonstration
gardens from across the state. The cookbook, "Fresh from the Masters,"
will features recipes, gardening tips and short stories by Master
Gardeners who are also outstanding cooks.
Special
events are being planned by Master Gardeners across the state to
celebrate the anniversary, including a daylong Founders Celebration
scheduled July 20, at the Landmark Convention Center in Tacoma.
That event will include garden seminars by renowned authors and
teachers, horticulture tours, and an evening banquet for 400 featuring
Jim Wilson, former host of the PBS TV series, The Victory Garden.
