| The
100th anniversary of home economics education at Washington State
University will be observed Sept. 25‚27. Home economics course work
began at the State College of Washington when the Department of
Domestic Economy was established in 1903.
Gertrude
McKay was the first graduate. She received a bachelor of science
degree in 1906. The College of Home Economics was established in
June, 1916. It was one of the first colleges of home economics in
the United States.
On
Oct. 15, 1982, the colleges of agriculture and home economics were
merged into the College of Agriculture and Home Economics.
