Funding Sources—36.8 Million

Cooperative Extension funding for the period of July 1, 1998 through June 30, 1999 came from five major categories. The Washington State legislature appropriated funds to the university, of which Cooperative Extension expended 13.3 million dollars. Cooperative Extension also receives federally appropriated Smith-Lever dollars as part of being a land-grant institution. The amount of Smith-Lever federal dollars spent in FY99 was 4.8 million. Grants and contracts made up 6.9 million dollars in expenditures. The grants and contracts come from the federal government, state agencies, local government, nonprofit organizations and private industry. The other category representing expenditures of 4.0 million dollars included income accounts, service centers, state oil settlement dollars, state air pollution dollars, indirect cost recovery dollars and donations. Cooperative Extension also partners with 39 counties in the state. The county partner funding expended during the period was 7.8 million dollars.


Expenditure of Funds—36.8 Million

Cooperative Extension expenditures of 36.8 million dollars from July 1, 1998 through June 30, 1999 were spent in four main categories. The largest category included salaries, wages, and benefits in the amount of 26.7 million dollars. This represents the payroll for 575 employees consisting of faculty, administrative professionals, classified staff and temporary employees. The goods and services category had expenditures of 8.1 million dollars for the purchase of supplies including office supplies, equipment maintenance, telephone costs, postage and shipping, printing and reproduction, conference registrations and subscriptions. The travel expenditures of 1.4 million included expenses for travel in and outside the state and covered transportation, lodging and per diem. The smallest category was equipment purchases of 0.6 million. Most of those purchases were for computers and related accessories.
