So You Want to do a Satellite Broadcast

The video unit of the Information Department produces videotapes and satellite conferences to support extension programming and distance education efforts.

Please keep these steps in mind when proposing and planning your videotape.

1Fill out a Proposal for Videotape or Satellite Conferences form, available from the Information Department.

2Schedule a meeting with the senior video producer, who will help you arrive at an estimated budget and answer questions about the production process. Please do this prior to including a video program option in a grant proposal.

3Discuss the project and budget with the department chair(s) and appropriate Extension Assistant Director.

4Secure department or program funding for video productions to cover production costs, such as time-slip help, transportation, lodging, meals, videotape, audiotape, graphics and duplication. Final approval of all proposals and allocation of funds rests with the Assistant Directors.

5Contact the Information Department Conference Coordinator, for essential tips on marketing and publication timelines. If you have an idea that you will be distributing printed materials for this broadcast, allow plenty of time, and contact the Information Department Publications Coordinator.

Finally, obtain the Satellite Broadcast Talent Tip Sheet (Pub Number C0999) from the Information Department.
