Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: Foundation II
Using Advanced Dreamweaver MX Tools Comments on the WSU Online Learning training module

Expected duration: 430 minutes (about 7 hours)

Lesson on Forms is useful, although there isn't really any information about what script to use to process the data. This information is particular to each organization, so it wouldn't make sense for SkillSoft to discuss a solution that wasn't available to each trainee. Nag me about getting information online about FormMail to close the gap.

WSU does not use Frames, so most people will not benefit from this section.

CSS, particularly for controlling font appearance, will be increasingly important. Even though WSU doesn't have a standard for CSS use as of July 2005, it is in the works.

Section on interactive page elements is very useful, particularly the part about rollovers and jump menus. I caution about using layers, however. Layers are not uniformly supported in browsers, and anyone trying them should test in multiple browsers and platforms. Better to avoid them all together. SkillSoft gives examples dealing with text blocks that appear and disappear, which would be potentially less damaging than permanent layers that could be unpredictable in their arrangement.

The section on checking Browser Compatibility will probably not be of much use to most WSU employees. In my opinion the site map feature is also of limited use, depending on your site structure.

Dreamweaver's Search and Replace function is great, so I am happy to see it covered well in this lesson.
